You are basically dealing with a visual representation of the MX-700 remote control, with access to all of the buttons and a database of IR commands from many industry remote controls.

The remote control panels can communicate with different protocols, and they have several operational modes. The configuration of the remote control panels requires the Matrix Controller software. The control panels have illuminated front panel buttons and an Ethernet LAN port for configuration and connecting to the controlled device. The universal device control mode transforms the RCP to a simple button array to control any device through a simple protocol. This function makes possible to send out multiple commands with a single press of a button. The salvo mode allows storing a group of commands for each button. And I can't seem to find the new updated editor anywhere and I an NOT going to shell out 99. That's why the new MX-850s can't talk to the old editor software.

But as you all already know, URC changed not just the MX-850 hardware, but the serial protocol it used to talk to the editor software. The RCPs can be used just like the front panel buttons on matrix routers to make crosspoint changes, or they can be programmed for special functions like salvo mode or universal device control.
